Council’s social strategy identifies 1000 Coast kids at-risk

The first breakthrough of the council’s new social strategy has been struck, with 1000 at-risk youths identified on the Coast.

Thanks to research carried out by SunnyKids CEO Chris Turner and his team, a plan of attack as to how best assist the 1000 kids that fall into the danger category can now be forged.

In his 25th year as a youth and family worker, Mr Turner said the relationship between his organisation and the council had now blossomed into an opportunity to work together to support more local families.

“To justify significant partnerships we needed to have hard data for that and by researching the statistics around the state and within our region we now know that it is in fact 1000 kids who need help and don’t get it,” Mr Turner said.

Mr Turner said the research meant the 1000 kids currently identified as in need of assistance were able to be targeted while in the early stages of entering difficult times.
