Sunshine Coast’s new field of dreams

Several Sunshine Coast sporting groups will be playing on a smoother surface in Buderim this year, thanks to Sunshine Coast Council’s construction of a $675,000 high performance sporting field at Ballinger Park Sports Complex.

Mayor Mark Jamieson, who joined Councillor Christian Dickson for the new field’s official opening today, said it was part of Council’s Ballinger Park Sports Complex Master Plan and was funded through the $111 million Capital Works Program.

“Providing quality sporting facilities is vital to ensure our community can maintain the healthy active lifestyle so many of us enjoy,” Mayor Jamieson said.

“This top-notch field includes a cricket pitch and allows our local clubs, such as Buderim Cricket Club, to get the most out of their training and competitions.

“Developing more opportunities for sport and active recreation boosts health, wellbeing and social cohesion and helps create a sustainable community – which in turn supports our goal of becoming Australia’s most sustainable region.

“This new field is one of many improvements Council will make to Ballinger Park Sports Complex over the coming years.”
