SEQ Council of Mayors | Bid for Olympic Games 2032 Meeting

SEQ Council of Mayors | Bid for Olympic Games 2032 Meeting

SEQ Council of Mayors progressed our bid for the Olympic Games 2032 at a meeting in Brisbane City Hall with IOC President Thomas Bach and AOC President John Coates today.

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner, former Lord Mayor Graham Quirk and I represented the SEQ Mayors.

A very positive gathering based on the large body of work undertaken by SEQ Mayors.

Good news on our potential cost neutral status based on the new ‘Agenda2020’

Our feasibility study is very conservative as is appropriate given we are forecasting ahead another 13 years.

Your Mayors see a regional SEQ Olympic Games as a major stimulus for the much needed road, rail and digital infrastructure we will need regardless to maintain our liveability and sustainability in our growing region.

Lots more work to be done before a decision to bid is finalised.
