Sunshine Coast Heart Week finalist in sports awards
The 2016 Sunshine Coast Heart Week was named a finalist in the inaugural Australian Sport, Recreation and Play Industry Innovation Awards announced on June 23 as part of the National Sports Convention.
The Sunshine Coast Heart Week was one of three finalists in the “Programs, activities or events” category of the inaugural Awards.
In acknowledging the region’s success, Mayor Mark Jamieson said there was no doubt communities thrive in an environment that encourages participation in active, healthy lifestyles.
“One of the four key targets in the Sunshine Coast Social Strategy is to ensure the region maintains its number one ranking as the healthiest region in Queensland”, Mayor Jamieson said.
“Our objective is to be a smart, healthy region and to this end, council has partnered with the health and wellbeing sector to raise awareness of the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle during the 2016 Heart Week.
“To be acknowledged as a national finalist for this initiative is a real testament to the Sunshine Coast region joining forces to approach health and wellbeing holistically.
“Regular daily participation in physical activity is good for our physical wellbeing, but it also promotes community inclusion and reduces the incidence of social isolation.
