Three Caloundra Regional Gallery exhibitions

Caloundra Regional Gallery welcomes a showcase of six outstanding and diverse artists over three concurrent exhibitions opening today (Wednesday, March 2) – Outskirts | Along the Line | The Hinterland.

The Outskirts exhibition by artists Robyn Shaw, Diane Hunter Robertson and Margaret Ellen Turner brings together three painters who connect and share a serious commitment to the practice of art making.

While their work does not share a similar visual connection, they share a similar sense of wry humour and irreverence, a willingness to take risks and build on each other’s ideas to define who they want to be as artists and people in the world.

Along the Line is the second exhibition by artists Gabi Timm and Susan Coburn and features a collaboration of works in a variety of media, where the ‘line’ has a strong philosophical and physical meaning – soaring ridgelines, distant horizons and exposed plains, as well as the deep marks made in the earth by nature and man.

The collection tells the story of time, place and motif which for them evokes the essence of the vast and differing Australian landscape.

The Hinterland is the third collection in the exhibition. By photographer Ana Paula Estrada, the hauntingly beautiful portraits are of some of the exceptional people who have dedicated their lives to The Hinterland.

The photographs capture farming in this productive region, the landscapes that they live and work in, and the imperfect beauty of the produce that they harvest. The portraits remind us of the tenuous nature of this industry.

The Outskirts | Along the Line | The Hinterland exhibition is on at the Caloundra Regional Gallery from Wednesday March 2 until Sunday, April 10.

In conjunction with the exhibition, the gallery is offering a range of programs from lively discussions to workshops for budding artists to develop their skills.

Visit council’s gallery website for more details.

Owned and operated by Sunshine Coast Council, Caloundra Regional Gallery is located at 22 Omrah Avenue and is open Wednesday to Sunday 10am to 4pm.
